“Scratching the Surface” was the title I originally created for a series of poems which I have written over the fifteen years or so of visits to Wales – that unique country, that “Land of Song”
However, as ideas for putting this book together came to me, I realised that it was a title that would cover the very essence of that which most of us manage to achieve when we are travelling, near or far. For this is a book of journeys taken, covering landscapes and people, incidents and impressions, histories and stories and which have, sometimes only lightly, sometimes powerfully, spoken to me.
